SZA to perform two New Zealand shows this April

SZA

Live Nation are excited to announce two special New Zealand shows for SZA, as part of her SOS world tour.

The Jersey-native will perform two shows in Auckland at Spark Arena this April, her first shows in the country since 2017.

Following the release of her globally applauded second album S.O.S, which exposes raw, unashamedly honest and thought provoking lyrics and saw her collaborate with heavyweights Don Toliver, Phoebe Bridgers, Travis Scott, and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, SZA has become an unstoppable force and one of the most talked-about artists of the last few years.

Press Release:

Born in St. Louis and raised in Maplewood, NJ, genre-defying, and GRAMMY Award winning recording artist SZA released her major label debut album Ctrl (TDE/RCA) in 2017. Revered for its raw and honest lyrics, it landed at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart, No. 2 on the R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart and No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, according to Nielsen Music.

The now RIAA-certified 3xPlatinum album received five Grammy nominations in 2018 and more than half the songs on Ctrl are currently certified multi-Platinum and Gold. Ctrl remains on the Billboard 200 chart since its release in 2017 and holds the record for the longest run for any Black female artist’s debut album. In 2022 alone it sold over 600,000 units and is the 10th best-selling female album this year in the country and 50th best-selling album in 2022 overall.

S.O.S is SZA’s second studio album. It was released through Top Dawg Entertainment and RCA Records on December 9th, 2022.

Six singles were released between 2020 and 2023 to promote SOS. The fifth, ‘Kill Bill’, was SZA’s first song to top the US Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Global 200 charts; the sixth, ‘Snooze’, was the only song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 for all of 2023. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 — SZA’s first to do so—and broke the record for the largest streaming week for an R&B album in the US. The album spent ten non-consecutive weeks atop the chart, making it the longest-running number-one female album of the decade and the first R&B album to spend its first seven weeks atop the chart since Whitney Houston’s ‘Whitney’.

Upon release, SOS received widespread critical acclaim for its eclectic sound and SZA’s vocal delivery. Several media publications ranked it as one of the best albums of 2022 and 2023. At the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, the album and its tracks received a total of nine nominations, including Album of the Year, and won Best Progressive R&B Album. In 2023, it was ranked number 351 in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.SZA
