27th October 2008
TSB Bank Arena, Wellington, New Zealand.

This concert was a bit of a whirlwind affair, I had been going through some difficult times personally and as such wasn’t even thinking about the possibility of being in Wellington to shoot it. I got a call the morning of the show telling me there was a photo pass available for me if I wanted it. I didn’t need to be told twice – I organised a ride down to Wellington with a good friend who was also shooting the concert and a few short hours later I was standing in front of five and a half thousand people, excited at the prospect of shooting Bone Thugs N Harmony, Ice Cube and of course Snoop Dogg.

The concert itself was pretty amazing – It was a sell out show, yet I was able to walk from the back of the room to the photographers pit and back again without any pushing or shoving (compared to the majority of drunken, violent punters I encounter at many rock shows).

I got a chance at one point to venture up to the balcony at the rear of the venue and watch a sea of people all with their hands in the air waving in time to the music, everyone having a great time. There was certainly a lot of love in the room that night! In stark contrast, upon leaving the venue we were met with police barricades complete with police dressed in full riot gear as crowd control – the one and only time in my life I had ever seen this at a concert!

Equipment: Canon EOS 450D; Canon EF 28-70 f2.8L, Sigma EX 20mm f1.8
