She came, she performed and she slayed! Theia has just recently concluded her whirlwind tour of New Zealand in support of her self-titled debut EP to near sellout crowds. Tonight she plays an all-ages show at Auckland’s best kept secret The Tuning Fork.

You have read the recent interview where we discussed the themes and influences behind this massive first offering from our latest New Zealand star – but we here at Ambient Light thought it was about time that we drilled down and discovered what really makes Theia tick by playing the game ‘Six Questions’!

Puppies or Kittens?

“Noooo! This is really hard! The answer is both! I will explain why; because I have gone my whole entire life since I was four years old wanting a puppy but I’ve always grown up with kittens! So I adore cats but I have always wanted a dog as well just because they are like really different you know? Amazing in both ways”

Pineapple on Pizza, yes or no?

“No. Not for me, not pineapple on pizza; pineapple by itself yes, pineapple on pizza no. It doesn’t work for me. (But yay to the people that do!)”

Favourite place in NZ to just go and chill out?

“Kaiteriteri for sure, it’s amazing and is one of my favourite spots to go when its summer because the water is crystal and we (my brother and I) always just spend like our entire time hanging in the lagoon. We like running around and hopping into the water- because the current is so strong – and then being taken out to sea and then you like run around again; you just keep doing it! And then you stop for a bit for food (laughs).

Honestly it is like paradise, it’s like no other place that I’ve been. It has this really cool sense of community there as well and I really love it. The sand is yellow and the water is blue and there is no sand in the water; 2 meters down you can see your feet and the water is surrounded by trees and cliffs, it’s just beautiful!”

Do you have any weird talents?

“Well I don’t know if this is a talent or not but I suppose it is; I could basically open my own beauty bar! I enjoy shaping my friends eyebrows because I just love a good brow and I love to do manicures, pedicures and paint nails and things. It’s just really fun, it’s like art! I really just enjoy it and it always makes me feel good to have good nails.”

Childhood Nickname?

“The one that my mum would always call me is Poppet; which is cute. And then my friends would call me Em or Emzy!”

Favourite comfort food?

“Mac and Cheese! I love it! Ever since I was little my Mums Mac and Cheese has been my favourite thing ever and I also make my own version really well. I must have sampled every Mac and Cheese in LA! Mac and Cheese here and like everywhere is so good, but my favourite thing in LA was like the ‘Canters Grilled Cheese Sandwich’, it was so amazing!”

Theia is performing tonight in Auckland at Seamless along with a bunch of other really amazing acts. Tickets to the show being held at The Tuning Fork are still available, but selling QUICKLY so get in there if you want to head along!
