NZMM Daily Playlist Challenge: 19/05/18 – Courtney Newbold

NZ Music Month Playlist Challenge

The NZ Music Month Daily Playlist Challenge
19th May, 2018

Compiled by Courtney Newbold / Anti Matter.

Courtney Newbold is the songwriter and producer in the solo project Anti Matter, an experimental pop punk act that is always energetic and memorable.

With a large interest in post hardcore and punk music, and a growing interest in electronic music, Courtney set out to start a music project to satisfy these curiosities. The project was preconceived as an activist band, with strong musical and songwriting elements so they can have a message, as well as meet Courtney’s own artistic vision. Thus Anti Matter was born.

As a finalist in New Zealand’s battle of the bands competition, Anti Matter has been honing their sound on the Auckland gig circuit, receiving compliments on their quirky sound. Dance-punk, experimental, industrial, art-punk are all adjectives used by punters to describe Anti Matter.

Now, after a hefty two years of local shows Courtney is currently in the studio working on her debut EP.

Courtney also dabbles in event management, putting on the female empowering Riot Grrrl Auckland shows, and occasionally reviews international acts for Ambient Light.

Courtney flies the flag for underground and alternative/heavy acts in this playlist. She has always had a love for the post hardcore/emo scene and is definitely influenced by it in her own musical endeavours.
