The NZ Music Month Daily Playlist Challenge
17th May, 2018

Compiled by Sarah Kidd / Ambient Light.

Sarah Kidd is an accomplished interviewer and dedicated member of both the review and photography team here at Ambient Light. Born and bred – and currently still residing – in Auckland, Sarah is a well-known face around the local music scene having lived for all forms of live music since being a young teen.

While you may find her predominantly dressed in her favourite colour of black, her musical taste is anything but; in fact it more resembles a multi-faceted rainbow, Sarah often drawing from multiple genres and time periods. Sarah often refers to herself as ‘genre-fluid’ when it comes to music, strongly believing that the melodic art form has no age, race or societal boundaries. Its ability to bring immense joy to people often due to the fact that each listener will interpret what they hear differently, absorbing from it what they will. A huge supporter of the live music scene, she is deeply concerned with the loss of local venues and hopes to see both bands and punters continue to fight back.

When she is not immersing herself in all things music, by day Sarah deals with the intricacies of being a Technical Services Manager in the Healthcare field. She is also an avid animal lover who shares her home with seven rescue cats (no crazy cat lady jokes please) and occasionally finds the time to dabble in both art and guitar.

In regards to her playlist, Sarah states: “I have chosen tracks from several different genres – some from well-established artists, some from up and coming. Beginning the journey with the progressive metal soundscapes of Seas of Conflict we delve into the darkness of Black Metal stalwarts Bulletbelt before stepping sideways to embrace some historical punk bands in the form of Proud Scum and The Terrorways. We then dance the light fandango with some industrial / hell electro from the duo at Lichtbeuger before confronting Dead Space with experimental pop punk princess Anti Matter, finishing on a touch of ‘guitarless guitar music’ from the gorgeous Wax Chattels. And of course I couldn’t leave out the goodness of some Hiphop-Melo Trap from fellow West Aucklander Melodownz, throwing in a few other tasty morsels before ending on a high with the SWIDT crew from Stoneyhunga!

So go forth! Explore! Indulge yourself and let music feed your soul!
