NZMM Daily Playlist Challenge: 14/05/18 – Heidi Ettema

NZ Music Month Playlist Challenge

The NZ Music Month Daily Playlist Challenge
14th May, 2018

Compiled by Heidi Ettema / Mushroom Group.

Heidi first started working in music at the CD&DVD Store in Dunedin Airport (yes, there was a store there for some reason). While there she carefully honed her skills in Sudoku while affording her the time to try and one up her best friend Michelle on who could think of the funniest late 90’s one hit wonders (Ann Lee’s “Two Times” and Space’s “Neighbourhood” are still absolute tunes, thanks for asking). It was here that Heidi also achieved her career highlight – selling the last copy of that Celine Dion / Anne Geddes Book & CD collaboration…

After 7 or so years with that company, at various store locations around the country, Heidi got made redundant and jumped the ditch where she continued to work in music stores around Australia. She eventually returned home to Wellington in 2014.

In February 2016 Heidi moved to Auckland for a job with Mushroom. Wide eyed and bushy tailed, she readied herself for weekend trips to Real Groovy and bumper to bumper traffic.

Mushroom is an Australian based company formed in the early 70s by Michael Gudinski. Originally a record label (signing the likes of Kylie Minogue, Split Enz, Jimmy Barnes and more), it now boasts many facets including Frontier Touring, a host of record labels, a kick ass promo team, a publishing arm, Mushroom Pictures (yes, movies) and more! Heidi’s role is to manage the record labels in NZ, while she also does publicity for the Mushroom touring artists and label artists.

On this NZ Music Month Playlist, Heidi says: “The songs I have chosen are a mixture and all songs that I really enjoy listening to, by artists I have a wealth of respect for. The first time I heard ‘Sit Down by the Fire’ by The Veils it floored me. It still does. Every time I see The Datsuns play live, they absolutely kill it. Marlon’s “Make Way For Love” has an incredible amount of nostalgia woven through it, while Wax Chattels are one of the most exciting live bands around right now!”
