Compiled by Kate Taylor / One Take Kate

Kate Taylor is a writer, reviewer, social media community manager; and owner / content creator of onetakekate.com, a movie, entertainment and lifestyle website. As well as being a regular contributor to Ambient Light, Kate has also written for Rip it Up, Groove Guide, Bride & Groom Magazine, This Adulting Life, GrownUps, Gather Magazine and more.

Starting with music early Kate spent childhood pouring through her Dad’s vinyl collection; obsessively collecting Rolling Stone and NME mags at high school with a dream to write for either of them; crossed the ditch for a Music Business Management course and left it to work at Melbourne’s Shock Records instead; learning about the recording industry in real time and helping to break bands like The Hives, The Black Keys, The White Stripes and more to the Oz public. Moving back to Auckland, Kate did some time slinging discs in Queen Street’s Real Groovy Records before working at independent record distro label Border Music, running the warehouse and regional sales repping.

Kate loves a nasty hardcore breakdown just as much as a pulverising metal riff or a slick hip hop flow and although she’s writing about music these days instead of working in it, she still gets goosebumps from those purely blissful moments of connection you share with a band and a crowd at a live performance.
