Being. announce single release show

Being.

Auckland based indie-pop artist, Being. will release her debut single ‘High in Mind’ at Golden Dawn this week. Jasmine Balmer, the voice and Creative Director behind Being. is known for her mesmerising melancholic monologues mixed with moments of hypnotic poetry. She has a special ability to capture the attention of an audience, bringing a sense of togetherness.

‘High in Mind’ is described by Balmer as, “A smack in the face of colour and elation, cosmic synths and surf’d out guitars. It’s a zest-drenched spirited acceptance of the awkward that comes with growing into ‘self’.”

To coincide with the launch of the single, Being. will release her first zine; a collection of poems featuring a collaboration with artist Huia.

October is a busy month for the artist who joins NZ Musician’s October showcase line-up. They describe her as, “A hypnotising performer who is garnering attention for her warm vocals, scatterings of spoken word, and superb performances.”

All this before Being. heads to Mexico for a short tour there.

Being. Single Release Show

Press Release:

Just over a year ago Being. aka Jasmine Balmer, played her first show under the moniker. In that time, she has joined extensive line-ups from Auckland’s underground alternative music scene including the likes of Miss June, Randa, LIPS, Lisa Crawley, Clap Clap Riot and YokoZuna among others.

“Being.’s music leans towards a melancholy-surf aesthetic. She jumps “from fun pop to introspective spoken word, but is always tied together with a punchy performance and consistent writing.” – Joel Thomas, NZ Musician

Sifting through what she calls ‘mind-mess’, Being. creates lush layers and drones that render the chaotic into a soundscape of peaceful melancholy that is ‘Being.’

“…she delivers an astounding piece of ‘spoken word’ the strength in both herself and her words resonating with each line. At its conclusion she plays a song… allowing unadulterated emotion to pour forth. When she finishes there are a few seconds of stunned silence before rapturous applause fills the room.” – Sarah Kidd, Ambient Light
